What is CSR?

History & Evolution of CSR

The vedic philosophy of “Sarva loka hitam” i.e. ‘‘the well-being of all stakeholders”, has regained importance in the current business environment. The concept has evolved over the years and now used as strategy and a business opportunity to earn stakeholder goodwill.

CSR is slightly different from Charity and Philanthropic activities.

It’s a legal responsibility that casts upon a corporate body to address the socio-economic-environment issues being faced by the nation.
Previously there was a religious tradition of ‘daan and seva’, which were operated in India, helping to shape the relationship between the privileged and the deprived.

At a later stage, corporate bodies started doing this activity through trusts and institutions, controlled by members of business families. Corporate bodies can make a huge social impact for a better future while getting many indefinable benefits in return.

Legal Requirements under Companies Act, 2013

As per Section 135 of Companies Act, companies having;
Net worth of Rs.500 crore or more or Turnover of Rs.1000 crore or more or Net Profit of Rs.5 crores or more, are required to spend at least 2% of the immediately preceding financial year.

Such Companies are mandatorily required to form a CSR Committee, spend towards CSR activity falling under Schedule VII, Prepare CSR policy, disclosure in annual report and on company website, if any. Also, such companies need to give details about CSR in Business Responsibility and sustainability reporting, if applicable to them.

We can help you to decode the law and comply with your CSR regulatory requirements.

Return on CSR

As mentioned earlier, Corporate bodies make a huge social impact for a better future by creating a CSR strategy, innovation and spending on needy areas while getting many more indefinable benefits in return.

Embracing CSR increases customer retention and loyalty, increases employee engagement, improves brand imaging, attracts investment opportunities and top talent, and makes a difference for bottom-line financials.
Our goal is to simplify CSR for you by ensuring compliance with the act and the CSR Rules, 2014.
CSR compliance is all about adhering to legal obligations concerning social and environmental responsibilities that contribute to sustainable development and positive societal impact.
